Air Europa – Facts and figures
Air Europa Líneas Aereas, S:A:U:, is a Spanish airline company based in Llucmajor, Mallorca, founded in February 1984 in Spain, at that time still under the name Air Espana. It is managed by Juan José Hidalgo. In total, the airline served 10.2 million passengers and had a turnover of 1.69 billion € in 2016.
In 2020 IAG, the parent company of British Airways, Iberia and Vueling, takes over Air Europa and intends to expand its presence in Spain.
The aircraft of Air Europa
Air Europa is a young and modern fleet with 51 aircraft, which are on average under 3 years old.
In 2018, Air Europa had a turnover of 2.1 billion euros and carried over 11 million passengers.
With its youngest fleet on the European continent, Air Europa aims to become one of the most modern airlines in the world.
Among the aircraft are the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the Airbus 330 and the Boeing 737-800, among the models of the 737 series one of the latest as well as the Embraer 195 , perfect for short and medium distances.
On flights, a comprehensive and exclusive in-flight entertainment system is offered with the option of in-flight WiFi.
The hub of Air Europa is the airport Madrid – Barajas. From here, aircraft take off for North and Western Europe, Africa, South, Central and North America and the Caribbean. In Germany, flights are operated to Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich, as well as to Zurich.

With SUMA, you will earn 2 miles for every euro spent on your ticket. (Applies only to published fares and fuel surcharge. Taxes and other fees are excluded).
In addition, on SkyTeam alliance flights, you will earn miles based on the distance traveled, as well as miles for the purchase of partner products and services.

On the website, through the APP or by phone on +34971927892 you can use your miles. You have the option of entering your details when you register with Air Europa SUMA and they will be filled in automatically each time you make a booking.
There is also no restriction in terms of class, fare or date when redeeming your miles. Silver, Gold or Platinum status customers earn 50%, 75% or 100% bonus miles in addition to their base miles, depending on their status with Air Europa.
The birth of Air Europa
In February 1984, Air Europa was initially founded under the name of Air Espana. With the participation of the British charter airline Air Europa in 1986, Air Espana was incorporated into the Airlines of Europe Group and renamed Air Europa. In 1991, the British Air Europe went bankrupt and the Spanish Air Europa went to a group of investors.
Already in 1993 Air Europa removed Iberia’s monopoly in Spain and in 1995 the airline also offered scheduled flights abroad. Starting with London and New York, the number of weekly flights grew to 750 in 1996 and for domestic flights the subsidiary Air Europa Express was founded, which only existed until 2001. In 1998 Air Europa became a member of the new holding company Globalia Corporacion Empresarial.
In 2006, it became a partner of Sky Team and became a full member in 2010.
As a result, Air France-KLM joined the Flying Blue frequent flyer program.
In 2015, the Spanish Aeronova was bought by Air Europa and operates low-cost flights throughout Europe under the name Air Europa Express.
Since November 2019, it is known that the International Airlines Group will buy Air Europa.
